My curiosity was piqued by this article on the $20M surplus for Montgomery County in the Daily Gazette. I’m especially curious to understand the financial rationale and analysis that would argue for not using the surplus to offset any tax increase for this year.
If there is any lesson to be learned from the recent financial crisis, it’s that transparency must exist in financial models and the underlying financial analysis to make reasonable financial decisions.
So whatever rationale exists for keeping or growing the current surplus must be clearly articulated by the supervisors and administrators. Let’s see the underlying projections,assumptions and models that support the decision.
I’m skeptical that a case exists but I may be convinced if you show me the numbers.
