Harshing Your Mellow – Week of March 1

The economic numbers suuuuuuck….
Local Unemployment (here):
Montgomery County: 10.7% Jan 2009 versus 8.5% Jan 2008
Fulton County: 10.5% Jan 2009 versus 7.0% Jan 2008
Local Real Estate (here):
Results in rural areas were more pronounced because they are dealing with fewer properties. In Schoharie County sales were down 31 percent and Montgomery County sales fell 60 percent.

Meanwhile median prices in Schoharie and Montgomery counties increased by 14 percent and 9 percent respectively.
I don’t need to cover the national figures as they’re covered elsewhere but not much absolutely no good news there either.

    Tell me about the real estate slump…..my house has been on the market, nearly $20k below appraisal, since August! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
